Rush Frequently Asked Questions

Being in Alpha Kappa Psi has all of the networking benefits of a social fraternity with the added benefit of professional development. Throughout the new member process and during your entire time as a brother of Omega Zeta, our chapter seeks to build your resume, give you leadership experience, and allow you to try new things. We save plenty of time for fun and camaraderie, but it’s the professional atmosphere of a business fraternity that sets you apart from your peers. You’ll improve your public speaking skills, get experience coordinating large-scale events, and join a network of over 260,000 people who came before you.

Anyone with an interest in business is encouraged to rush. Alpha Kappa Psi at Binghamton University is not reserved solely for School of Management students because the Omega Zeta chapter realizes not everyone you meet in the business world will have a business degree. By opening the fraternity to all majors and people with all different skill sets, we have a very diverse range of students who each bring their own talents and experiences to the chapter. We welcome all students to join us for Rush Week, including first-semester transfer students. However, first-semester freshmen must wait until their second semester at Binghamton University to be eligible to receive a bid.

You can find the Rush calendar on our website, as well as our Instagram @binghamtonakpsi. Keep an eye open around campus; posters will be hanging, B-Line will have occasional announcements, and brothers will be wearing Rush shirts in the coming weeks. Feel free to reach out to any brother you meet and make a connection early!

A bid is an offer to join the new member process. It indicates that we feel you have the potential to learn what it takes to be a brother. It is not a binding agreement that we will accept you, but rather an exciting opportunity to enter a process that will develop you personally and professionally. Rush week is your opportunity to get a feel for the fraternity and our brothers and to make yourself known.

The new member process will be a maximum of 12 hours per week and on average 2 hours per day.

It depends on the new member class, every process looks a little different. Once a new member class has completed all assignments, the new member process is complete.

The minimum GPA required by Greek Life at Binghamton University is a 3.0 GPA. We understand that school is the number one priority and we work hard to ensure your GPA will not suffer if you join our Fraternity. We can also provide tutoring and guidance for many classes considering we most likely have a Brother who has taken any given course.

Any questions can be directed to the Rush Chairs at rush@binghamtonakpsi.org. Alternatively, talk to any brothers you see around campus, or come out to Rush and ask us in person! We’ll answer anything you don’t see listed here!
